Experience the Mercado de Los Cielos yourself
Desert Sky Mall is celebrating the first phase opening of the Mercado de Los Cielos. With close 100 new shops already open, this boutique marketplace will soon be home to over 200 small shops, eateries and service-providers.
The Mercado will fill with more retailers this winter and into the spring. Desert Sky Mall's leasing team continually is working to find merchants that will appeal to shoppers.
“The Mercado de Los Cielos represents a great opportunity for entrepreneurs to find an excellent customer base,” said Michael Anderson, AVP, Business Development. “We are always looking for great tenants in a variety of categories – food, merchandise and services.”

The Mercado de Los Cielos is a proven cultural concept of The Legaspi Company, headed by Jose de Jesus Legaspi, a nationally recognized expert in Hispanic retailing, that is working with Desert Sky Mall on the project. The 77,500-square-foot Mercado is broken up into a variety of smaller shops for each individual merchant. This dynamic and engaging concept is aimed at the area’s Latino community and will eventually feature a wide variety of offerings including fresh produce, clothing, meat, seafood, general merchandise and services, such as barbers and nail salons.
“The progress of the Mercado de Los Cielos marks another step into the continued evolution of Desert Sky Mall toward embracing its Latino community,” said Zeke Valenzuela, Property Manager, Desert Sky Mall. “Cinema Latino opened here and so did La Curacao – both first-to-market concepts for Arizona. The Mercado de Los Cielos solidifies our position as the only true Latino-focused super regional shopping center in Arizona.”
Delivering a Family Experience
Continual events in the mall and the El Mercado de Los Cielos will be a true hallmark of the experience that it will bring to the Phoenix-area Latino market. The mall will feature entertainment on Saturday and Sunday with extra emphasis on holidays and special events. Mall hours also are extended on Sunday until 9 p.m. to allow families to gather together here and enjoy the experience.
Legaspi says the Phoenix market demonstrates many characteristics that make it an excellent place for the Mercado, which is changing quickly as more retailers open up daily.
“In the future, just like any good marketplace across the globe, whether you are in Rome, Paris, Barcelona, Mexico City, Boston, Seattle, Los Angeles, and now Phoenix,” Legaspi said. “It is a unique and inviting environment with lounge and seating areas complete with flat screen TVs, so all members of the family can comfortably enjoy their time here with us.”

Phoenix is the 8th largest Hispanic market in the U.S. and continues growing. As a state, Arizona has the 7th largest Hispanic population in the nation. The State has a Hispanic buying power of over $31 Billion, and the Phoenix metro-area represents close to $21 billion of that.
Mercado de Los Cielos appeals to the Hispanic shopper and retailer alike.
